Ed Chamberlin and the sour-grape seeking match stats.

Breaking News: Old Trafford groundsmen are confident they can uproot Joe Hart from between the sticks in time for United’s FA Cup clash with Crawley Town on Saturday.

The 23 year old shot-stopper is still stood gawping at the top corner of his goal mouth after Wayne Rooney scored a goal so memorable even Vincent Kompany enjoyed it. Hart is currently still at Old Trafford blubbering out gibberish as his poor brain attempts to comprehend what happened.

With the game teetering in the balance at 1-1, Nani received the ball on the right, after spotting Rooney prowling around inside the area, the Portuguese crossed the ball towards him. Unfortunately the ball seemed to be too high and slightly behind the England hit-man. But Wayne Rooney is no ordinary England striker, and decided to perform an overhead kick so good, his England team-mate Hart could but plant his feet into the pitch and watch the ball fly into the top corner.

Cue Manchester United jubilation and neutral jaw-dropping, even the City fans had to applaud it. There’s no shame in losing a match to a goal like that. Realistically it should have been worth two, maybe even three.

But not all City fans are being as admiring, many calling the goal ‘alright’ at best. Silly City fans, don’t ruin it for yourselves. Just accept the loss and move on. City played quite well in the match and perhaps they were a little unlucky to not get a point from the game, but they lost.

Embarrassingly for City fans, one of their own, Mike Summerbee, was an analyst on Sky for the match. During the post match analysis he decided to burst into a rant exclaiming City were the better team, they had 60% of the possession, had the better chances and deserved to win. Unfortunately for him Ed Chamberlin then brought up the actual statistics. If Summerbee was a battleship, Chamberlin’s stats were a direct hit straight to the hull. The statistics revealed it was actually United who had the majority of possession at 54% and the most shots on target.

Summerbee dismissed the stats, claiming he doesn’t do them. According to him City were better, and that’s that. To be fair to the guy, City did play well, but no one was saying they didn’t. Summerbee says Fergie will be ‘looking over his shoulder’ now at City. I’m not so sure, Fergie never looks back.

All Summerbee has done is reinforce a stereotype making all City fans look like idiots. Unfortunately City fans have a bit of a reputation for being very bitter, especially when it comes to their neighbours. It’s a bit unfair as most City fans are brilliant. However there are some out there who turn into lemons once they lose. There’s been some anti-United fans out there who’ve just been trying to dismiss the greatness of the goal. Just enjoy it. That’s what football’s all about.

Regardless of Summerbee’s unprofessional rant, City are up there with United. They are title contenders this year, just about, and will be in the future. Yes, they may be buying their way to the top, but regardless they are contenders. However, on Saturday afternoon United won, not because they had more possession or because they’re far superior to the blue half of Manchester. It was simply because they put the ball in the net twice while City managed it just once. They’re the stats that matter in the end.

In years to come, no one will remember the result anyway, but one thing they will remember is the goal.

Doctor’s say Hart will be fine.
