Labelling, re-labelling, or not labelling at all.

London has been taken over by rioters over the past few days. People have been vandalising shops, looting goods and setting fire to everything and anything including fire engines themselves. If you haven’t heard about it you’re probably a hermit crab, or David Cameron.

It has understandably been the main story across all the news media recently, but after reading about it all, or watching news bulletins on TV something is troubling me. Why are the rioters being called ‘protesters’ or ‘demonstrators’?

These people are nothing more than thugs. Scumbags who have jumped on another peaceful protest and stirred up a cauldron of violence once more. Why are the media giving them dignity they do not deserve? These people are not protesters, those over in Syria and Egypt are protesters, these Londoners are just a bunch of pathetic morons!

Another label that gets thrown around quite a bit when things like this happen is ‘youth’. ‘Youths set fire to bus shelter’; ‘Youths throw fire extinguishers from building tops’; ‘Youths fight with other youths outside football ground’ you know the spiel, sentences like these are found in near enough every newspaper, every single day.

But is this fair? I know plenty of people who would be defined as a youth, and well, they’re quite nice people actually. Of course there are youths who are scumbags, but I’ve seen plenty of middle aged scumbags looting this week, how about the mother who stood outside JD Sports trying on shoes before she buys, sorry steals. She wasn’t a youth.

We need to stop calling these people youths, even if they are youngsters. Newspapers need to say it like it is. Call them nobbers. That’s what they are so bloody well call them that. ‘Nobbers set fire to bus shelter’; ‘Nobbers throw fire extinguishers from rooftops’; ‘Nobbers fight with other nobbers outside football ground’. You see, it’s now much more accurate a sentence.

As for the young nobbers, let’s stop giving them their ASBO medals they end up wearing with pride. That needs a rename too. Anti-Social Behaviour Order? How about Generally Annoying Youth Behaviour Order. That should take the shine out of their precious medal.

This has been an ongoing problem for the media really. It’s something that’s aggravated me a lot over the years. It’s bad enough when they focus on pointless stories over real stories (Wayne Rooney affairs overthrowing political affairs for example), but it’s when they start calling people by the wrong title when I end up totally dismayed.

Take the other week, when a select committee questioned Rupert and James Murdoch and a ‘protester’ tried to hit Rupert with a custard pie. The news was all about piegate rather than hackgate. Who was the man they focussed on over the real news story? Jonathan May-Bowles.

Yes that’s right Jonathan May-Bowles, NOT Jonnie Marbles for crying out loud! His name is Jonathan May-Bowles so why on Earth are the news media calling him Jonnie Marbles?! Oh he’s a comedian is he? Wrong again! He’s a clown! Comedians tell jokes and funny anecdotes; clowns throw pies. Jonathan May-Bowles sat in the audience, misquoted Dickens on his Twitter page, attempted to hit Rupert Murdoch with a custard pie, failed, and got beaten up by Murdoch's wife for his troubles. HE IS A CLOWN!

I’m sorry but if I can’t be called Batman if I get arrested then why does Jonathan May-Bowles get to be called Jonnie Marbles? It’s bad enough this idiot gets any coverage whatsoever let alone gets to be called his ‘alias’.

And while I’m on the subject of people getting coverage who really shouldn’t: how about the man responsible for the Norway shootings in July? His face was everywhere after the killings. On the front page of every newspaper with his gawking face and harrowing eyes.

Do I care? NO! I don’t give a damn about him, stop talking about him! The news should have focussed on the victims, I want to hear about them; they deserve to be remembered, this retarded maniac deserves to be forgotten about by the entire world! What does the media achieve by going on and on about him? Nothing. All it does is throw shame on his poor family who will have to live with the knowledge that their son or brother committed this horrific crime. Focus on the victims not the killer.

Saying that though the other avenue the media explored was to find the survivors and shove a microphone under there faces merely hours after the event. They’re just kids, show some respect and stop asking stupid questions like ‘what was going through your mind when you saw the killer coming towards you firing and killing you friends?’ Immoral journalism, the BBC even did it.

I absolutely hated the coverage of the Norway attacks. The Sun embarrassingly ran with ‘Norway’s 9/11’ on their front page, others went down the same road, all featured his gawking face. After the bombings and the shootings the psychopath said he would reveal his reasons to the world the following day. As soon as I heard this I got angry. The media should have just stuck two-fingers up at him and not listened to his reasons. He killed 92 innocent people on that day, I don’t give a monkeys about his reasons, lock him up! I don’t want to hear one syllable emanate from his stupid mouth!

Instead what do we get? His ridiculous 1500 page manifesto banging on about multiculturalism and Christianity, most of which he just ripped off Wikipedia. Remember that guy in college who did nothing, slept in class and handed in essays from Spark Notes? Do you give a damn about anything he has to say? No. So then why should you care about what this simpleton has to say!?

A lot was made about the Christian element of his attacks. Religion is involved in terrorism? Thanks for the update news media! What are you trying to say? All Christians are fundamentalists hell-bent on taking over the world in the name of Jesus? That’s as stupid as saying all Muslims are terrorists hell-bent on killing the infidels to appease Allah or that Postman Pat is an anthrax killer because it has been known for anthrax to be transported in envelopes!

Again, please stop giving idiots like the Norway shooter, or any other terrorist any coverage whatsoever. Just tell us more about the victims. I couldn’t tell you one name of those who were killed in Norway off the top of my head. Frankly I should know every single one of their names. But I don’t, all I know is the killer’s name. It really shouldn’t be this way.

The media needs a real shake-up. Journalists should be telling the stories that really matter, if you're not doing that then you're not a journalist. It’s not important to know what Katie Price has said on ITV2, nobody cares. At least they shouldn’t care. The unfortunate thing is I think people do care more about learning about the Norway killer rather than the victims, or the clown at the select committee over the questioning itself.

And that makes me a very sad youth indeed.

The victims of the Norway attacks are profiled by the BBC here. Credit where it's due.
